At Mara Girls Leadership School, education is more than access to a classroom - it is a pathway to confidence, leadership and long-term opportunity.

About the School

Educating girls. Empowering future leaders.

Mara Girls Leadership School (MGLS) is a model school established by Basecamp Foundation Kenya with the goal of securing education for talented Maasai girls, supporting their transition to senior school and ultimately opening the path to university education.

The school was founded with a powerful vision: to nurture the next generation of Maasai women leaders and ensure that girls are represented in key decision-making spaces in society. Since its establishment in 2017, MGLS has remained committed to academic excellence, leadership development and holistic growth.

One girl in school. A lifetime of impact.
Growing with purpose.

Mara Girls Leadership School began in 2017, initially enrolling 16 girls per class under Kenya's former 8-4-4 curriculum. In 2023, the school successfully transitioned to the Competency-Based Education system and increased enrolment to 24 students per class, bringing the current school population to 72 girls aged 10 to 14.

This growth reflects both the need for the school and its continued commitment to delivering quality education and leadership training for young girls.

The impact so far

Since 2017, 176 girls have passed through Mara Girls Leadership School. These numbers represent more than progress in school. They represent hope, resilience and the growing presence of educated young women who are prepared to lead.

48 Girls are at university level
55 Girls are in senior school
72 Girls are currently in junior school
176 Girls have passed through the school since 2017
